ST | ST-Steel Casement System

Overview

ST is the best-documented casement system Sosoares publishes, and the one KR reaches for when a project sets a genuine thermal or acoustic target. The thermally optimised 71 mm frame takes selective double or triple glazing from 18 to 54 mm — deep enough to reach Uw 0.96 W/m²K, and to record Rw 45 dB in an independent acoustic test. Four lines sit on the platform. Straight and Oval are the visible-sash lines. ST-Oculta conceals the sash behind a 47 mm face so a casement can be detailed alongside the OS minimalist sliders without breaking the sightline. ST-Steel, a 78 mm line, recreates the proportions of a steel window in thermally broken aluminium.

71 mm thermal-break casement reaching Uw 0.96 W/m²K and Rw 45 dB. Catalogued as "ST | ST-STEEL — Sistema de batente de 71 mm e 78 mm com corte térmico"; lines Straight, Oval, Concealed (ST-Oculta) and Steel (ST-Steel)

Product highlights in detail

Lines and opening types

Straight, Oval, Concealed and Steel lines across casement, door, tilt-turn, hopper, awning, tilt-slide, folding and pivot.

Dimensional limits

70 to 180 kg per sash by typology; glazing 18 to 54 mm on the visible-sash lines.

Frame and face dimensions

71 mm frame with a 78 mm sash on the visible lines, 70 mm on the concealed line, 78 mm on ST-Steel.

Key system data

  • Aluminium: 71 mm
  • Face Width: 47 mm
  • Max Weight: 180 kg
  • Triple Glaze: 0.96 W/m²K
  • Double Glaze: 1.35 W/m²K
  • Acoustic Cont: Rw 45 dB
  • Weather Resist: EN 12208 E1350
  • Wind Load: EN 12210 C5

Frame depth is the 71 mm ST fixed frame; ST-Steel is 78 mm. Face width 47 mm is the ST-Oculta concealed-sash face — the visible-sash lines show an 85 mm face. Maximum weight 180 kg applies to the door and tilt-and-turn typologies; other typologies range down to 70 kg. Thermal values are ISO 10077-1/-2:2017 results, Uw 0.96 W/m²K with Ug 0.50 W/m²K triple glazing and Uw 1.35 W/m²K with Ug 1.00 W/m²K double glazing. Acoustic Rw 45 dB (-1;-4;0;-4) is ITeCons ACL 358/20 for ST; ST-Oculta records Rw 42 dB under ACL 168/22. Water E1350 and wind C5 are from ITeCons AEV report CLX 062/15. The ST technical catalogue is dated November 2022 against a 2026 master catalogue, so KR treats these values as provisional and reconfirms them with Sosoares before a submission is signed.

01 — Planning benefit

Planning benefit

ST is selected on glazing depth and sash weight. The 18 to 54 mm glazing range is what makes the low Uw reachable, so fix the glass build-up first, then check the sash against the 70 to 180 kg per-typology limits, then choose the line — visible sash, concealed sash or steel-look.

Lines and opening types

  • Lines: Straight and Oval (visible sash), ST-Oculta (concealed sash), ST-Steel (78 mm steel-look).
  • Typologies: casement inward or outward opening in 1 or 2 leaves; door; tilt-and-turn; hopper; awning; tilt-and-slide; folding in 3 to 7 leaves.
  • A pivot window is documented in Sosoares technical bulletin N0599.1.
  • ST-Oculta is designed specifically so a concealed-sash casement can coordinate with the OS minimalist sliding range.

Dimensional limits

  • Sash weight, by typology: casement 1–2 leaves 150 kg; door 180 kg; tilt-and-turn 180 kg; tilt-and-slide 160 kg; hopper 130 kg; awning 120 kg; folding 3–7 leaves 80 kg.
  • Catalogue summary range: 70–180 kg per sash across ST and ST-Oculta.
  • Glazing: 18–54 mm double or triple on ST, ST-Oval and ST-Steel; 28–32 mm on ST-Oculta.
  • Hardware channel: European chamber / Channel 16.

Frame and face dimensions

  • ST fixed frame: 71 mm (77 and 78 mm variants are also listed on the Sosoares website).
  • ST mobile frame: 78 mm on the Straight and Oval lines, 70 mm on the Concealed line.
  • Catalogue sections: ST 71/78 mm with an 85 mm sash face; ST-Oculta 71/78 mm with a 47 mm face.
  • ST-Steel: 78 mm fixed frame, 85 mm mobile frame, with 47 and 25 mm elements.
  • Polyamide thermal break: 39 mm fixed frame, 35 mm mobile frame.

02 — System integration

System integration

  • ST-Oculta concealed sash — The sash is hidden behind a 47 mm face, which lets a casement sit on an elevation next to an OS minimalist slider without the sightline stepping. ST-Oculta publishes its own acoustic report at Rw 42 dB, but no AEV or thermal result — where those govern, the visible-sash line is specified.

  • ST-Steel steel-look line — A 78 mm line conceived, in Sosoares' words, to recreate in aluminium the distinctive design of steel frames. It suits heritage, industrial-look and design-led work that wants slim steel proportions with thermal-break performance. Available in lacquered, anodised and bicolour finishes.

  • Selective triple glazing — The 54 mm upper glazing limit accepts a selective triple build-up, which is what carries the system to Uw 0.96 W/m²K with Ug 0.50 W/m²K. Glass selection is where most of the thermal result is won on this system.

  • Concealed actuators and hidden tilt-turn kits — Sosoares documents concealed actuators and hidden tilt-and-turn hardware kits for the ST platform. No sash motorisation is published, so none is offered.

  • Coordination with LT — Where the 71 mm depth is more than a project needs, the 67 mm LT casement shares the same typology logic on a shallower frame. KR runs the comparison at design stage rather than defaulting to one or the other.
